KELLY KERIN of Cincinnati explores ancient symbols through woodworking.  His work includes exquisitely carved chests and wall hangings in the Celtic knotwork style.  Kelly, a graduate of Hanover College in Indiana, started woodworking in 1995 after becoming interested in ancient stone carvings, especially Celtic High Crosses.

His work is focused on celebrating the intricate knot work designs associated with a style often referred to as Celtic Christian art. These ancient designs, which flourished in the 8th and 9th centuries, were used extensively in the production of illuminated manuscripts. The beauty and complexity of these interlacing patterns suggests a symbolic potency of timeless appeal.
